Who We Train
Negotiation training for everyone

Negotiation training for everyone
Scotwork firmly believes that negotiation training is for everyone. We encourage our participants to explore the skills they already have, and build new ones to allow them to explore the world of negotiation with success.
There is no one single industry, background, or individual that will benefit from negotiation training more than another. We harness each learner’s natural behaviours and experience gathered thus far to maximise their performance and give them the tools and knowledge needed to work towards successful outcomes.
Global Enterprises
Global enterprises operate across jurisdictions and cultural divides and so must be prepared for the challenges that come with both. Negotiation is a key skill used here to ensure that every deal made benefits their organisation while remaining within the terms set by other parties, whether these are other businesses or regulatory or governmental organisations.
Navigating different jurisdictions is no small feat. Negotiators operating at this level need to have clear strategies in place to ensure they can pivot when needed, can offer proposals and counter-offers with confidence, and feel secure even in cultures very different to their own.

Negotiators operating on a global level must be prepared for high stakes and conflict that may require strategies and decision-making beyond standard practices. Our Advancing Negotiation Skills Training and its follow-up course build on the foundational skills negotiators may already possess to give them more advanced capability and the drive needed to deliver stronger outcomes more consistently.
Mid-Market Companies
Mid-market companies need to navigate complex markets and deals, manage competitive external pressures, and facilitate momentum towards business outcomes. Negotiation skills form the bed-rock on which all of these are managed.
Negotiators working in this space need to have a core understanding of their own strengths and weaknesses and how these translate into their own preferred negotiation strategies. Learning how to properly structure a negotiation and drive value from beginning to end, whether this is through the original route or via a backup strategy, will be key.

Scotwork’s core programme is designed to give negotiators the practical skills they need to be successful. Build the core competencies needed to thrive, establish strategies, and learn how to harness behaviours ethically and positively when undertaking negotiation.
Owner-Managed Businesses
Owners play a unique role in managing a business, one that might look very different from that played by a CEO who was hired externally. Leadership and management throughout the organisation may adhere to the owner’s personality and values, even as the company grows in size and success.
Negotiation may play a key role in establishing relationships and wider business strategy, both in the pursuit of long-term partnerships with other organisations and within the company as new executives come onboard. The original owner, these new executives, and other managers and team leaders within the growing business all need to demonstrate good negotiation practices to support business outcomes and continued growth. Their goals in negotiation may be to always seek a way to create additional value while aiming for mutually beneficial outcomes for all parties involved.

Whether our learner is the owner themselves or one of their c-suite executives, they need to be able to demonstrate and master both strategic leadership and advanced negotiation. Our Negotiation for Leaders Programme is designed to give these executives the skills and support they need to thrive.
Individual Negotiators
Individual negotiators take many forms. Scotwork’s experts believe that everyone should be able to negotiate. Even if an individual is not in sales or acquisitions, they should still have a good understanding of their own strengths and weaknesses in negotiation.
Most often, individuals should be negotiating and advocating for themselves when discussing their salary. This negotiation could take place with a potential employer during the recruitment process, but it could also take place with a current employer during a promotion or even an annual review. Individuals should also be able to negotiate as part of their ability to communicate and collaborate with colleagues.
Finally, individual negotiators may very well have to negotiate in a professional capacity. Their organisation may not be able to send a full team to the bargaining table. Whether the individual negotiator is the decision-maker or just gathering information, concrete negotiation skills will be key.

New negotiators would benefit from our Negotiating Foundation Workshop. This lays the groundwork for negotiation and helps participants develop the critical core competencies needed for confidence in the negotiation process.
